The Dangers of Gossip and The Importance of Encouraging Each Other
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Deuteronomy 13:12-15 (How to handle gossip you hear)
If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods you have not known), then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly.
'Do not go about spreading slander among your people.
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.
Proverbs 11: 9;13
With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape... A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.
The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends
The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts.
A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much.
He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king for his friend.
My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad; my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right
As a north wind brings rain, so a sly tongue brings angry looks
Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down. As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.
The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak.
Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the brothers.
He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece
2 Corinthians 6:6-9a
In purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on;
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers... Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

And this is the word that was preached to you. Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
1 Peter 3:10;16
Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech...keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
1 Peter 4:11
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.
3 John 1:12
Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone--and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.
